Biography/Artist Information:
Bela von Spanyi (Hungarian, 1852-1914)
The artist studied in Vienna and Munich. He settled in Budapest,
where a retrospective of his work was presented in 1905. In 2001 he
was included in the exhibition "19th Century Hungarian Paintings from
the Collection of Baron Aladar Zoltan Szendeffy," held at the Musee
Bartholdi in Colmar. In a romantic vein, Spanyi depicted immense
landscapes of untamed nature. In the painting "Misty Morning," which
was probably painted from nature, Spanyi approached the style of the
Impressionists, using a light brush that was capable of rendering the
vaporous contours of the water.
